GREENVILLE, N.C. – The men's tennis team was shut out by American Athletic Conference foe East Carolina, 4-0 on Wednesday, March 4.
The Pirates swept the doubles point, with Fredric Lehfeldt and Ross Nigro taking a 6-4 victory over Santiago Canete and Vineet Naran at the second flight. Nicolas Soriano and Patriek Wolterbeek clinched the point at the third flight, taking down Maros Januvka and Ian Glessing, 6-2.
Singles play was cut to three flights as the Pirates quickly shutout the Owls. Lehfeldt took down Filip Stipcic, 6-1, 6-0 at the third flight, Soriano defeated Nicolas Paulus, 6-2, 6-0 at the second flight, and Tendai Tapfuma defeated Canete at the first flight, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2.
The Owls will face Hampton today, while their 3 p.m. match against UMES has been postponed due to weather.
