Men's Golf Plays Aronimink & Merion This Weekend at the Princeton Invitational
4.10.15 | Men's Golf
PHILADELPHIA - Temple Men's Golf will get to play two of the best courses in the country this weekend when the Owls compete in the 12-team, two-day Princeton Invitational. Â
The tournament, traditionally played at Springdale Golf Club, has been moved to the Philadelphia area and will be held Saturday at Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown Square, Pa. and Sunday at Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, Pa. Tee times are set to begin at noon Saturday and 11:00 a.m. Sunday.
Aronimink, ranked as the 80th Greatest Course in the United States by Golf Digest, hosted the 1962 PGA Championship and was a PGA Tour stop for the AT&T National in 2010 and 2011.
The Merion portion of the tournament will be held on the East Course, which is ranked sixth by Golf Digest, has hosted five U.S. Opens, the last one just in 2013.Â
Temple senior Brandon Matthews, who was an alternate at the 2013 U.S. Open, leads the Owls and is ranked 39th nationally by Golf Stat with a 71.0 strokes per round average. Â The DuPont, Pa. native is looking to win his third straight tournament, and fourth in the 2014-15 season.
Seniors Matt Teesdale and Patrick Ross will join Matthews as Temple looks to challenge for its third tournament title of the season. Â Sophomore Evan Notaro and freshman Evan Thornton will round out the Owls' five-man squad with junior Liam Fahey competing as an independent.
Besides host Princeton, the tournament consists of five other Ivy League programs in Brown, Cornell, Dartmouth, Penn and Yale with Georgetown, Rider, Rutgers, Saint Joseph's, St. John's and Seton Hall competing the field. Harvard won the team and individual titles a year ago, with the Crimson finishing three shots in front of Yale and Akash Mirchandani winning medalist honors by a single stroke over teammate Robert Deng and and Dartmouth's Jeffrey Lang. All 12 teams in this year's field were part of the 2014 Princeton Invitational.
Pairings and course information specific to the tournament will be posted when available.
