4.17.15 | Men's Golf
RALEIGH, N.C. - Temple University and its red-hot golfer Brandon Matthews travel south this weekend for the Wolfpack Spring Open at Lonnie Poole Golf Course on April 18 and 19. Tee times will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday and 8:00 a.m. on Sunday.
Matthews, a junior from Dupont, Pa., has won his last three tournaments with his most recent win at the Princeton Invitational (April 10-11) tying him with Geoffrey Sisk (1983-87) with the most career titles (8) in Temple history. Ranked 40th by Golfstat.com, Matthews owns a 70.9 stroke average for the season.
Seniors Patrick Ross and Matt Teesdale have been solid all year and enter this weekend with 75.4 and 75.7 stroke averages. Freshmen Evan Thornton (77.5) and Mark Farley (78.1) round out the Owl squad.
The Owls are very familiar with the Lonnie Poole Golf Course, in particular Matthews, who competed here last year during the 2014 NCAA Men's Regional. Matthews also tied for sixth in the fall at the Wolfpack Intercollegiate with a one-under 212 for his three rounds. Temple as a team tied for 10th in the event.
For the purposes of the Wolfpack Spring Open, the golf course will play a par of 72 over 7,284 yards.
