PHILADELPHIA - Temple lacrosse heads to BIG EAST rival Cincinnati on Sunday for a 1:00 p.m. contest, looking to rebound after a setback earlier this week against Villanova. The Owls (9-5, 1-4) will play both of their final regular season games on the road to conclude the 2015 season.
Temple started its season with an impressive record of 8-1, but has struggled in conference play so far. The Owls got their first BIG EAST win against Marquette on April 11, but lost a narrow, 9-7 decision to Villanova on April 15. The game at Cincinnati on Sunday will feature two of the top four goal scorers in the league, Temple junior Nicole Tiernan (2.36 goals per game/33 total) and Cincinnati junior Courtney Curtis (2.33 goals per game/35 total).
Cincinnati (2-13, 0-5) is coming off a 20-1 loss at #8 Florida and the Bearcats have lost eight straight.
Behind Tiernan, Rachel Schwab ranks second on the team in total points with 22, having scored 11 goals in addition to recording a team-best 11 assists. Defensively, Tiernan leads the team with 21 caused turnovers while adding 18 ground balls and 30 draw controls. Twin sister Megan Tiernan has added 18 caused turnovers, 20 ground balls and 25 draw controls. Redshirt junior Jaqi Kakalecik has started every game in goal for the Owls, posting a 10.30 goals against average and .386 save percentage.
Temple and Cincinnati met for the first time in the 2014 season, with the Owls winning 14-3 in Philadelphia.
