CINCINNATI, Ohio - Senior Macie Hauck and junior Rachel Schwaab scored three goals apiece in helping lead Temple lacrosse to a decisive, 16-3 road win at Cincinnati (2-14, 0-6) on Sunday afternoon. The Owls (10-5, 2-4) controlled the offense all game long with 38 total shots to the Bearcats' six.
Schwaab totaled six points for the game, adding three assists to her three goals. The hat trick was her first of the season and fifth of her career. It was the first career hat trick for Hauck, who also recorded one assist in the win.Â
In total, 11 players scored for Temple. Junior Kirstie Connor put two goals in the cage, while eight other players scored one goal apiece. Three of those scorers, Megan Pinkerton, Avery Longstaff and Nicole Tiernan, also recorded assists.
"We just had a great game today," said Temple head coach Bonnie Rosen. "The team came out and played a complete game from goalkeeping all the way to offensive and draw controls and 50/50 balls. We generated a ton of shots. Their goalkeeper did a nice job but we gave ourselves a lot of opportunities.
"Macie was fantastic today and very deserving of everything she got. She's been working really hard. She scored some really nice, tough goals. Rachel did a nice job controlling the pace of the game. She's really finding the goal cage well helping to organize the offense. The two of them really set the tone of our attack today."
Connor and Schwaab gave Temple a 2-0 lead in the first four minutes, but the score remained there for the next 10 minutes of action. Cincinnati made it 2-1 at 16:12, but Nicole Barretta and Schwaab answered quickly with a pair of goals in the following minute.
Temple scored the final two goals of the half for a 7-2 lead at the break, and the Owls exploded with the first five goals of the second half to take a commanding 12-2 advantage. Morgan Glassford's free position goal just under four minutes into the second half started the run, which also included two of Hauck's three goals.
After allowing the Bearcats one goal at 14:46, Temple closed out the game on a 4-0 run. Sophomore Krissy Gallivan scored her second goal of the season, and Connor scored a man-up goal in the run. Sophomore Brooke Williams notched a free position goal, and Avery Longstaff scored the final goal of the game on an assist from Schwaab with 7:47 left on the clock.
The Owls recorded 15 draw controls to Cincinnati's four. Junior Summer Jaros led all players with four draws while also tallying two caused turnovers.
Temple's final game of the 2015 season will be a 3:00 p.m. contest at Georgetown on Saturday, April 25.
