Golf Tied For 7th After Day One at Wolfpack Spring Open

RALEIGH, N.C. - Senior Matt Teesdale and junior Brandon Matthews both shot one-over par 72s to help Temple Golf tie for seventh after the first day of competition at the Wolfpack Spring Open Saturday at the Lonnie Poole Golf Course on the campus of North Carolina State.  

The two Owls were tied for 16th overall and are seven shots behind the Wolfpack's James Chapman, who leads the 77 player field with a seven-under 65.

Matthews, who is looking to become the first Temple golfer to win four straight tournaments, managed only one birdie, on the par 5 seventh hole while recording two bogeys on the day. 

Freshman Evan Thornton was third for the Owls with a five-over 76 (t-40th) while senior Patrick Ross was one shot back and tied for 49th with a 77. Freshman Mark Farley rounded out the Temple five with a 79 (t-62nd).

North Carolina State leads the 11-team field with an eight-under 276.  They are followed by Maryland (284), George Mason (284), Penn (290), Columbia (290), Francis Marion (292), Temple (297), Navy (297), Valparaiso (298), Emory (301) and Dartmouth (304).

Play concludes Sunday with Teesdale teeing off first for Temple at 9:00 am.
