Blanca Fernandez Advances to Quarterfinals of NCAA East Preliminary Meet

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - In the first round of competition at the NCAA East Preliminary meet, Blanca Fernandez ran a qualifying time in the 1,500m to advance to the quarterfinals on Saturday, May 30. Fernandez ran a time of 4:24.97 which was second in her heat and 23rd overall. The East Division of the preliminary championships are being held at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Fla. from May 28-30.

In the quarterfinals, Fernandez has to place in the top 12 out of 24 competitors in order to qualify for the NCAA Final Track and Field Championships. The quarterfinals of the 1,500m run will begin at 6:30 p.m. Saturday evening.

The NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be held in Eugene, Ore. from June 10-13.
