Student-Athletes Participate in 128th Annual Commencement Ceremonies

PHILADELPHIA - Sixty-one Temple University student-athletes are confirmed graduates this academic year, including 49 who will participate in the 128th annual Commencement ceremonies on Friday at the Liacouras Center. In all, more than 9,000 students will graduate with the Class of 2015.
"There is no better day at a University than Graduation Day," said Temple Vice President and Director of Athletics Kevin Clark. "In my role as Director of Athletics, it always gives me great pride to congratulate our young men and women who have worked hard in the classroom as well as on the field of play.
"Supporting our student-athletes' academic success is a true team effort. Our coaches instill the importance of success in the classroom, while our academic support staff provides the tools needed to succeed. Today's commencement is the byproduct of our commitment to academic excellence."
The 61 student-athletes represent 16 of Temple's 18 intercollegiate sports. Football has the most graduates with 15, followed by women's rowing with nine, and women's gymnastics with seven.
Men's soccer and women's track had five graduates each, while men's basketball, men's rowing, field hockey, lacrosse and volleyball all had three student-athlete earn their degrees. The numbers include fall 2014 and spring 2015 graduates, with nine additional student-athletes expected to earned their degrees upon the completion of the summer
semester.
Temple Athletics' Class of 2015 is comprised of student-athletes from 12 different states, including New Jersey and Delaware, but as far away as Oregon, Nevada, and Florida.  The graduates combined for almost 7,000 credit hours, enrolled in nine different colleges with 32 different majors. The 61 Owls combined for a 3.21 grade-point average (GPA).
In celebration of the accomplishments of the graduating seniors, Temple Athletics hosted a reception on Thursday afternoon prior to graduation exercises for the student-athletes and their families. The Department presented each graduate with a special Student-Athlete sash that was worn during the ceremonies.
