PHILADELPHIA – Standout Temple University golfer, Brandon Matthews, has been named an honorable mention Division I PING All-American by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
Matthews, a two-time All-Region selection, earns his first All-America nod. The junior is the first Temple player to earn the national honor since Pete Dannenbaum in 1988.
A native of Dupont, Pa., Matthews placed in the top-10 in 11 of the 12 tournaments he competed in this season. He set a new school record from season stroke average (70.9), while tying school marks for consecutive wins (3) and career wins (8).
Matthews won the Temple Invitational in the fall, while picking up victories at the Furman Intercollegiate, the Met Intercollegiate and the Princeton Invitational this spring. An All-American Athletic Conference selection, he also earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Championship, placing 15th overall at the New Haven Regional.
Outside of the college game, Matthews took the title at the prestigious Dixie Amateur in December, and most recently, shot a five-under 65 in the final round to tie for third at the Sunnehanna Amateur Tournament for Champions.
