Athlon's 2015 Preview Lists 10 Owls As All-Conference

PHILADELPHIA – Athlon's Sports has released its all-conference teams and 10 Temple Owls earned recognition, including four who garnered first team praise.

Senior center Kyle Friend was joined by three defenders – senior DL Matt Ioannidis, redshirt-junior DL Praise Martin-Oguike and senior LB Tyler Matakevich – earning first-team accolades giving the All-American Athletic Conference defense a strong Temple presence.

Also receiving all-conference honors were sophomore DB Sean Chandler (3rd team), senior LB Nate D. Smith (4th team), redshirt-junior TE Colin Thompson (4th team), senior DB Alex Wells (4th team), redshirt-sophomore RB Zaire Williams (4th team), and senior DB Tavon Young (2nd team).

In other predictions, the magazine placed Temple as the runner-up in the East division behind Cincinnati; had Matakevich as the overwhelming favorite to win defensive player of the year; and head coach Matt Rhule earned a vote for coach of the year.

Athlon's 2015 Temple Preview began: "Matt Rhule clearly knows what he's doing at Temple. The Owls enter the 2015 season a contender in the American Athletic Conference East Division with 17 starters back from a team that won just as many games as it lost. If Rhule can find balance on both sides of the ball, Temple could make some serious noise in the AAC."
