Women’s Soccer Falls to Villanova, 1-0 In Exhibition Match

VILLANOVA, Pa. - Temple women's soccer team dropped a close match to city-rival Villanova, 1-0, on Saturday in their only scrimmage of the preseason.
Even though the Owls didn't emerge victorious, head coach Seamus O'Connor was extremely satisfied with his squad's performance on the field.
"I think the girls looked absolutely perfect for where we need to be in this part of the season, so I was very pleased," said O'Connor. "All the ideas were there and the patterns were there that we worked on. They picked up everything we wanted just the finishing was off today, but that's on us. We'll correct that and make sure we work on the finishing"
The Owls played the Wildcats close, with the score 0-0 at the half. However, in the 69th minute, Villanova's Kayla Hughes scored the exhibition's only goal.
There were a few chances for the Owls to score, including two shots from Kelly Farrell in the 62nd and 65th minute off corner kicks.
Now that the preseason is winding down, the team is ready to get out on the field and work towards their goal of winning the American Athletic Conference.
"Everyone's very happy and knows this is the process. We just have to focus on our goal of working on winning the conference," said O'Connor. "It was hard for a player to understand why I was taking them off the field or moving them into different positions, because they want to win every game badly. But now, they understand and they get it that we're in this for the long haul."
The Owls open their season at Ambler Sports Complex against Fairleigh Dickinson on August 21 at 4:00 p.m.
