Offensive Line Makes Joe Moore Award Honor Roll
9.16.15 | Football, Kyle Friend - All-American Candidate
PHILADELPHIA - The Temple Owls' offensive line have been named to the Joe Moore Award Honor Roll for Week 2. The line was very effective against a highly-touted Cincinnati front seven in the American Athletic Conference opener. Temple rushed the ball for 215 yards and 6.0 yards per carry, controlling possession for 13:00 of the third quarter, scoring two offensive touchdowns after halftime, en route to a 34-26 victory at the preseason conference favorites. Led by Rimington and Lombardi Award watch list member Kyle Friend, the line has helped Temple win the time of possession battle in both of its early victories and allowed just three sacks total against Penn State and Cincinnati.
The Joe Moore Award is in its' inaugural season and will go to the nation's most outstanding offensive line unit that best displays toughness, effort, teamwork, physicality, tone setting and finishing. Named for one of football's best known offensive line coaches, who spent two seasons at Temple during the 1980s, this is the lone annual award in college football to honor a playing unit. After a review of actual game film, the weekly Joe Moore Award Honor Roll includes units that display a superior level of toughness, effort, teamwork, physicality, tone setting and finishing. Statistics, including those supplied by the universities (i.e. knockdowns), are used to support observations made about the technique and effort displayed in the game film.
The Owls look to continue their strong play as they head to Gillette Stadium to face the UMass Minutemen. Gametime for Saturday is set for 3:00 p.m.
