Golf Struggles at Hartford Hawk Invitational

SOUTH KENT, Ct. - Playing without injured All-American Brandon Matthews, the Temple Golf team struggled mightily at its first tournament of the 2015-16, placing 20th at the Hartford Hawk Invitational  The two-day, three-round Invitational, held at the Bull's Bridge Golf Club, concluded play Tuesday.
Freshman Trey Wren led the Owls, but tied for 57th overall with a 14-over par 230 (73-77-80, 241). Â Sophomore John Barone (78-78-85) was next for Temple, tying for 89th place while sophomore Mark Farley (75-83-87, 245) and freshman Gary McCabe (75-89-83, 247) rounded out the squad.
Matthews, who shot a 74 in the opening round, pulled a muscle in his back early in the second round Monday and was forced to withdraw from the tournament. Â His status is uncertain for this weekend's Quechee Club Collegiate Challenge.
Connecticut won the Invitational with an 853 score, besting second-place UCF by 13 strokes (866).Â
