9.22.15 | Men's Golf

SOUTH KENT, Ct. - Playing without injured All-American Brandon Matthews, the Temple Golf team struggled mightily at its first tournament of the 2015-16, placing 20th at the Hartford Hawk Invitational   The two-day, three-round Invitational, held at the Bull's Bridge Golf Club, concluded play Tuesday.

Freshman Trey Wren led the Owls, but tied for 57th overall with a 14-over par 230 (73-77-80, 241).  Sophomore John Barone (78-78-85) was next for Temple, tying for 89th place while sophomore Mark Farley (75-83-87, 245) and freshman Gary McCabe (75-89-83, 247) rounded out the squad.

Matthews, who shot a 74 in the opening round, pulled a muscle in his back early in the second round Monday and was forced to withdraw from the tournament.  His status is uncertain for this weekend's Quechee Club Collegiate Challenge.

Connecticut won the Invitational with an 853 score, besting second-place UCF by 13 strokes (866).
