Kyle Friend Named Semifinalist for NFF’s Campbell Trophy

9.24.15 | Football, Kyle Friend - All-American Candidate

PHILADELPHIA – Temple senior center Kyle Friend received a semifinalist slot for the National Football Foundation's William V. Campbell Trophy, presented by Fidelity Investments. The award goes to the best football scholar-athlete in the nation. Friend was named to a list of 135 players from all levels of college football, including all four tiers of NCAA plus the NAIA. This is the second academic nomination for Friend, who was named to the CLASS Award Watch List with teammate Tyler Matakevich. Friend is one of six student-athletes to represent the American Athletic Conference among 56 semifinalists of FBS schools. He is also on the watch lists for the Rotary Lombardi Award for outstanding lineman, and the Rimington Award for the nation's best center.

The award has been presented since 1990 and gone to some of the premier scholar-athletes in college football. Named after the founder of Intuit software, the award offers the 15 finalists announced next month a postgraduate grant to further their studies, and a bonus to the award-winner who receives the trophy December 8th in New York City.

Friend and the Owls will return to the gridiron following their bye week as they head to Charlotte for a non-conference battle with the 49ers. Game time for the nationally televised match-up on CBS Sports Network is 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 2nd
