Golf in Seventh Place Following First Round at Quechee Cup Collegiate Challenge

QUECHEE, VT - Senior All-American Brandon Matthews returned to the lineup Saturday and led the Temple Golf team with a one-over 73 in the first round of the Quechee Cup Collegiate Challenge Saturday afternoon at the 6840-yard, par 72 Quechee Club.

Matthews, who withdrew following the seventh hole of the second round of the Hartford Hawk Invitational due to a pulled muscle in his back, is six shots off the leader, John Lazor (-5) of host Dartmouth, and tied for 15th overall. He is also three shots better than teammate freshman Sam Soeth, who shot a four-over 76 in his first round as a Temple golfer.

Junior Evan Notaro and sophomore John Barone are one shot behind Soeth and tied for 37th at five over. Freshman Trey Wren ended the day with a six over 78.

Dartmouth leads the field with a three-under 285 while the Owls are 19 strokes back at +16 (304).
