Women’s Soccer Suffers First Loss to Penn, 2-1

PHILADELPHIA – The Temple women's soccer team suffered their first loss of the season on Friday as they fell to crosstown rival Penn, 2-1. The Owls move to 4-1-0 on the season.
The game was a battle as the Quakers only outshot the Owls 9-7, but two goals in the first half proved to be too much to overcome. Penn was first on the board in the fourth minute of the game when Natasha Davenport took a rebounded shot and placed it in the net behind senior Shauni Kerkhoff.
In the 23rd minute of the game, the Quakers scored again when Cameo Hazelwood crossed the ball in front of the goal and Allie Trzaska was able to slide it right past Kerkhoff to give Penn the 2-0 lead.
Temple surged in the 72nd minute of the game, when sophomore Elana Falcone was able to cross the ball towards the net, which senior Paige Rachel then sent in past the goalkeeper from about 10 yards out to bring the score to 2-1. However, the Owls efforts for a comeback were staved.
The Owls will be back in action on Sunday as they host Lehigh. Kickoff is at 1:00 p.m. at Ambler Sports Complex.
