Men’s Tennis Blanks La Salle, 7-0 At City Six Invite

PHILADELPHIA – In the opening round of the City Six Invite, the Temple men's tennis team shutout crosstown rival La Salle, 7-0. This is the second shutout of the season for the Owls over the Explorers.
"It was a great start for the guys, they came out strong in doubles and continued to do the job in singles. It was strong performance by the whole team, especially by Nicolas Paulus at the number one spot," said head coach Steve Mauro. "I'm really happy with the way that the guys are coming together. Even though it's early in the season, we're really happy with their work ethic and we look forward to the next round of the tournament."
Doubles was a sweep for the Owls, as Ian Glessing and Filip Stipcic defeated Liam Rodriguez and Lane Bangis, 6-0 at the third flight. The freshmen duo of Uladzimir Dorash and Florian Mayer picked up a victory at the second flight, taking down Joseph Di Orio and Meredith Christian, 6-1. Vineet Naran and Hicham Belkssir closed things out with a 7-6 (3) win over Brian Balico and Mark Robinson at the first flight.
In singles, the Owls continued to dominate the Explorers, with all the flights being won in straight-sets. Belkssir shut-out Di Orio at the fourth flight, while Naran picked up a 6-0, 6-1 win at the sixth flight against Bangis. Mayer recorded his second singles victory of the season at the second flight, defeating Christian, 6-0, 6-2. Glessing also shut-out his opponent at the fifth flight, while Dorash and Paulus both picked up victories at the third and first flights, respectively, to seal the win for Temple.
The Owls will return to competition in the second round of the City Six Invite on Saturday. The opponent and time are still to be announced.
