Gymnastics Hits the Road for Pittsburgh Quad Meet

PHILADELPHIA – Coming off a winning 3-2 weekend, the women's gymnastics team is set for a quad meet hosted by the University of Pittsburgh. The Panthers will host the Owls, along with #12 George Washington and #15 New Hampshire, starting at 6:00 p.m.
Last weekend, the Owls earned their first win while competing against defending conference champions William & Mary. By less than one tenth of a point, Temple was able to top the Tribe and earn the first win of the season, as well as the first career win for head coach Umme Salim-Beasley.
Sahara Gipson and Alexa Phillip earned their first event titles against the Tribe. Gipson earned a career-high 9.725 on beam to top all competitors on the event. Phillips was able to post a 9.775 on bars to earn her first individual event title.
At the Lindsey Ferris Invitational, the Owls posted their best team score of the season (191.375) and placed third, topping Penn and North Carolina. Host team George Washington took first, followed by ECAC opponent Cornell. Junior Briana Odom led the Owls at the meet, earning three season highs (VT, BB, UB) and two career highs (FX, AA). She was then named the ECAC Gymnast of the Week following her successful weekend.
Pittsburgh enters the weekend following a third-place finish at the Ozone Classic with a score of 190.525. The Panthers' best score of the season (191.05) was posted at their 2016 opener where senior Lindsay Offutt earned three first-place event finishes. Offutt continued her success at the Ozone Classic where she tied for first on floor with a score of 9.9. Tracey Pearson has also earned an event title this season, placing first on vault last weekend with a 9.775.
The #12 Colonials of George Washington head to Pittsburgh after a first-place finish at their own Lindsey Ferris Invitational for the fourth year in a row with a team score of 195.425. Overall, the Colonials saw 13 podium appearances and were led by sophomore Cami Drouin-Allaire. Drouin-Allaire posted an all-around total of 39.3 to take the title as well as earning first place on floor.
Also entering this weekend's competition with a national ranking, the #15 Wildcats of the University of New Hampshire are set to continue their impressive season. Despite falling to #26 West Virginia last weekend, the Wildcats posted a team score of 195.225. The team's season high was posted on Jan. 14 at Yale University, where the Wildcats earned a 196.075. Casey Lauter and Danielle Doolin have been key gymnasts for the Wildcats, both competing in the all-around and earning scores of 39.0 or better in the past two meets.
