Women's Basketball Seeks Sixth-Straight Win; Owls Play at SMU on Tuesday

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple women's basketball team looks to go 3-0 to start play in the American Athletic Conference, heading to SMU on Tuesday for an 8:00 p.m. (ET) match-up. The Owls have won five-straight, including opening conference action with victories over Memphis and Houston.

The Owls
• Temple is 8-4 overall, 2-0 in The American.
• Most recently, Temple topped Houston, 75-66 on the road, backed by 23 points from junior Feyonda Fitzgerald and 20 from sophomore Alliya Butts.
• Senior Erica Covile (17 pts, 6 reb), sophomore Tanaya Atkinson (10 pts), and sophomore Donnaizha Fountain (9 reb) rounded out the stat leaders against Houston.
• For the season, Fitzgerald leads Temple with 16.7 points per game, while adding team-highs of 61 assists and 28 steals.
• Butts is second on the team in scoring and steals, averaging 15.3 points a game and racking up 28 steals.
• Atkinson averages 12.4 points and 5.8 rebounds per contest, while Covile (10.3 ppg, 6.9 rpg) and Fountain (9.2 ppg ppg, 6.5 rpg) bolster the Owls on both ends of the floor. 
• Temple averages 71.8 points per game, allowing 62.2.
• The Owls shoot 42.6% from the field and 33.0% from the field, they also have a +3.4 rebounding margin and a +1.9 turnover margin for the season.

The Mustangs
• SMU is 5-7 overall, with an 0-1 mark in The American, most recently falling to Tulsa, 56-54, on the road. 
• Against Tulsa, the Mustangs led 47-41 with just over six minutes to play, but Tulsa battled back and hit the go-ahead bucket with 19 seconds on the clock to seal the win. 
• Alicia Froling recorded her sixth double-double of the season, scoring 17 points with 15 rebounds, while McKenzie Adams tied her with a game-high 17 points.
• For the season, Adams leads the Mustangs with 14.1 points per game, while Alicia Froling averages a double-double of 13.0 points and 11.0 rebounds per game.
• Ashley Gibson (9.9 ppg) and Stephanie Collins (9.5 ppg, 6.2 rpg) also top the SMU season box score.
• The Mustangs are averaging 64.8 points per outing, shooting 38.9% from the field and 25.9% from beyond-the-arc.

Temple vs. SMU
• Temple has won three of the four meetings between the teams, including both games last year, with all match-ups coming in The American regular season.
• The Owls won both meetings last season, after splitting in 2013-14.
• Last time they met, Temple allowed just 18 second half points, overcoming a slow start to post a 55-39 victory on the road at SMU.
• For the Owls, Alliya Butts led all players with 17 points, adding three assists and a pair of steals, while Tanaya Atkinson chipped in with 10 points and five boards.
• SMU was paced by nine points each from Alicia and Keely Froling, while Destinee Hives-McCray had eight points and a team-best six boards.
