Track & Field Heads to New York for Villanova Open

PHILADELPHIA –Temple track and field is set to compete at its second indoor meet of the season Friday afternoon at the new Ocean Breeze Complex in Staten Island, N.Y. for the Villanova Open. It's the first competition of 2016, and the Owls look to continue their early success from the Fast Times Meet on Dec. 5.
Overall, the Owls logged five personal records in their first meet and scored first-place finishes in four events. Freshman Sylvia Wilson kicked off her Temple career with a first-place finish in the 60 meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 8.71 seconds. She also made her mark in the 60 meter dash, earning the fastest time for the Owls and landing fourth in the event finals.
The returners on the team also made a strong stance in the first competition of the season, with junior Bionca St. Fleur and senior Imani Shell taking the gold and silver, respectively, in the long jump in a field of 38.
Senior Syndey Jacques also brought home a gold in the triple jump and sophomore Kenya Gaston took the top spot in the 200 meter race.
The Owls had at least one athlete in the top 10 in each of the nine events they participated in at the Fast Times Meet, and with the return of distance runners for this Friday's meet, the team looks to improve on its number of top finishes.
The meet is set to begin at 12 p.m. with 24 Owls participating in 12 different events.
