Men's Soccer Ends 110-Minute Match Against Tulsa in 1-1 Draw
10.22.16 | Men's Soccer
PHILADELPHIA – Through 110 minutes of tough-fought play, Temple men's soccer and the Tulsa Golden Hurricane posted a 1-1 draw on Saturday night. The Owls now move to 9-5-2 on the season with only two games remaining.
In just the sixth minute of play, Tulsa came out strong with a goal from Kay Duit. After grabbing a pass from Munashe Raranje, Duit broke through a battle with Owl defenders and opened himself up to a one-on-one with Alex Cagle to get the early lead.
As regulation continued, the Owls posted eight first-half shots and 11 in the second half looking for an equalizer.
The Owls were finally able to break through in the 87th minute after a cross into the box deflected off a Tulsa defender to find the feet of Jordan Wix Rauch. After grabbing the ball, Wix Rauch fired in his shot to the top left corner of the net to tie the game at one goal a piece.
Working through two 10-minute overtime periods, neither side was able to find the back of the net. Tulsa posted five shots across the 20 minutes of extra play with the Owls logging one.
Cagle tallied two saves with one being a crucial overtime save in the first 10-minute golden-goal session.
With the draw, the Owls now hold a 1-2-2 conference record and will need to win their final two games of the season to secure a spot in the conference tournament.
The UCF Knights travel to Temple next Saturday for the Owls' final home match of the 2016 season. Temple's seven graduating seniors will be honored prior to the beginning of the 7 p.m. match.
