Men's Soccer Hosts UCF Saturday for Senior Night

10.27.16 | Men's Soccer

PHILADELPHIA – As the 2016 season approaches its close for Temple men's soccer, a final game at the Temple Sports Complex looks to make history in the inaugural season of the new facility. Currently holding a 7-0-2 home record record, the Owls host UCF on Saturday night for a 7 p.m. match to close out the 2016 home slate.

Saturday's game will also recognize the Owls' seven graduating seniors prior to the start of the match. Tanner Giles-Tucker, Jorge Gomez Sanchez, Kevin Klett, Matt Mahoney, Carlos Moros Gracia, Stefan Mueller, and Dan White have collectively contributed to 31 total wins to date include two 10-win seasons in 2013 and 2015. The group has scored 36 total goals and led the team to four NSCAA College Team Academic Awards among many other notable accomplishments.

Last week, the Owls posted a 1-0-1 week with a victory over Delaware and a conference draw with Tulsa. Mahoney and Jordan Wix Rauch each earned spots on the American Athletic Conference's weekly honor roll following their performances from last week. Both players scored their first goals of the season to secure the results of both games.

The team also remains on the hunt for its 10th win of the season to mark head coach David MacWillliams' seventh overall 10-win season and fourth in the past five seasons.

Team leader Jorge Gomez Sanchez remains in the top of the national leader boards, sitting in fourth in total goals with 13 and second in game-winning goals with six.

The Matchup…
UCF heads to Philadelphia following a 2-1 loss to FIU on the road. The loss moved the Knights to an 0-6 record for away games and 4-9 overall.

Their last conference match saw a big upset when the Knights topped the UConn Huskies 2-1 in overtime. With the win, the Knights moved to sixth place in the conference standings with six total points.

Matias Pyysalo stands as the teams goals and points leader and was named the American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week following his game-winning goal against UConn last weekend.

The Owls have faced off against the Knights only three times in program history with UCF leading the series 2-0-1. Last season, Temple visited Orlando and dropped the match 3-1. The lone draw in the series was posted in 2014 at the Ambler Sports Complex.
