Temple Looks For Fifth Straight Win at Home vs. Cincinnati

10.25.16 | Football

PHILADELPHIA - Temple (5-3, 3-1 American) is now tied for first in the East Division and will take on conference foe Cincinnati (4-3, 1-3) on Saturday, Oct. 29, at 3:30 p.m. The game will air on CBSSN and 97.5 The Fanatic, Temple football's flagship radio station.

With a great win over a USF team that was predicted in the preseason to finish first in the East Division of the American Athletic Conference, the Owls turn their attention to the Bearcats, who come off of a 12-point victory vs. East Carolina. The Owls are led by a two-headed monster at the running back position between Jahad Thomas, who has 12 touchdowns on the year in six games, and Ryquell Armstead, who rushed for a career high 210 yards and two scores in last week's win over USF. QB Phillip Walker has also been playing exceptional as he has thrown for 11 TDs, 1,791 passing yards this season. On the season, the Owls' defense is only allowing 321.0 yards per game, which is ranked 17th in the nation and second in the conference. They will go up against a Cincinnati offense, led by quarterback Gunner Kiel, that averages 414.7 yards per game.

LAST WEEK
Temple got its revenge on USF from last year, as the Owls delivered a 46-30 win in front of 25,950 fans Friday night at Lincoln Financial Field. The Owls generated 319 rushing yards, which was a season high for the team. Key performances were turned in by running backs Ryquell Armstead, who rushed for a career high 210 yards and two scores, and Jahad Thomas, who increased his FBS leading streak of scoring two or more touchdowns in a game to six.  Quarterback Phillip Walker was efficient in the game, as he went 14-21 with 209 yards and gave Colin Thompson his first receiving TD of his career. Stephan Marshall was the eighth different Owl to lead the team in tackles with 8. Another notable performance came from Haason Reddick, who had a sack, which increased his conference leading total to 7.5. Special teams also did its part during the game as Praise Martin-Oguike had a blocked PAT and Avery Ellis had a blocked punt.

LAST TIME
The last time these two teams met, Temple defeated Cincinnati 34-26. A spectacular performance was put in by RB Jahad Thomas who had 193 rushing yards, one rushing touchdown, and a 100-yard kickoff return for a score, which tied the school record. Austin Jones was 2-2 on field goal attempts and quarterback Phillip Walker threw for a score as well.  Additionally, LB Jarred Alwan had 9 tackles, which tied for his career-high.

UP NEXT
