Tramaine Ellison Named Assistant Track and Field Coach
10.3.16 | Women's Track and Field
PHILADELPHIA – Tramaine Ellison, a Temple University alumna, has been named a women's track and field assistant coach on head coach Elvis Forde's staff.
"There were a few things I noticed during the interview process that led to me wanting to have Tramaine on board," explained coach Forde. "She has a great passion and love for the institution and she demonstrated how much she wanted to see the university succeed. Secondly, I noticed that she has a level of maturity in handling female student-athletes that I believe will be very beneficial for our team. Having come from the program, Tramaine understands the bumps in the road that our athletes may have to face on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis."
Forde hopes that Ellison will be able to show Temple women's track and field what success truly is and realize that a certain level of commitment has to be made in order to reach their goals and to be contenders in the American Athletic Conference.
"The opportunity to coach at my alma mater is a huge honor," said Ellison. "I came from a really small town in North Carolina and did not know anything about Philadelphia, but I thought that if I was ever going to be the woman that I wanted to become, I had to go out there and go as far as I could take myself. What I hope to do in my time here is introduce the young women to that same type of potential. I aim to help them understand that you are only limited by yourself and your thoughts and that you can be as great as you want to be. I am grateful for the opportunity to be able to instill those things in young women and for the fact that someone took the time to do the same for me."
Ellison comes to Temple from Johnson C. Smith University where she served as an assistant track and field coach for three years and helped lead the women's team to two CIAA championship titles. The Temple alumna got her start in coaching in 2006 in North Carolina public schools.
Ellison credits her mentors, Cliff Huff, Lennox Graham, Anthony James, Delthea Quarles, Bill Hayes, and the Charlotte Flights Track family for her coaching success. She is grateful to her family for their continuous support.
