RALEIGH, N.C. – Sophomore Trey Wren led Temple Golf at the Wolfpack Intercollegiate, carding an eight-over 221 in the two-day, three-round event held at the 7,358-yard Lonnie Poole Golf Course on the campus of North Carolina State. The young Owls, playing with only one upperclassman in their five-man lineup, struggled against the tough field, placing 16th in the 17-team field.
Wren shot a consistent 74, 73, 74 for his three rounds to tie for 49th in the 90-player field. Sophomore Sam Soeth, who had led the Owls in each of their first two tournaments, was next for TU, one-shot back of Wren with a nine-over 222 to tie for 54th.
Redshirt sophomore John Barone, whose two-over 73 was the best final round by any Owl, tied for 74th with a 229 while junior Mark Farley had a 75 for his final round to finish 78th with a 231. Freshman Marty McGuckin, playing in his first collegiate tournament, rounded out the Cherry and White with a 238 for 83rd overall.
East Carolina won the Wolfpack Intercollegiate with an 837, besting Kennesaw State (840) by three strokes. Host North Carolina State was third with an 849.
