Women’s Soccer Heads to Texas for Two-Game Conference Road Trip

PHILADELPHIA – Temple women's soccer heads on the road this weekend for its first road conference games of the season. The Owls will take on the Houston Cougars on Thursday night at 8 p.m. EST and then head to SMU to take on the Mustangs on Sunday for a 2 p.m. EST kickoff.

Temple heads into the weekend 3-9, 0-2 on the season after a tough 2-1 loss to Tulsa this past Sunday. The Cougars sit at 5-3-1, 0-2 after two straight conference losses to UCF and USF. The Mustangs come into the weekend 8-3, 2-0 with two-straight conference wins over USF and UCF.

For the Owls, they are led offensively by junior Gabriella McKeown. The North Cape May, N.J. native has three goals, two assists, and eight points on the 2016 campaign – all of which are team bests.

In net for Temple, sophomore goalkeeper Jordan Nash has been having a good season despite the team's record. Nash has 72 saves on the season with three shutouts and a goals against average of 1.21.

Houston as a team has scored 15 goals this season and is led by sophomore Desiree Bowen. Bowen has a team high five goals and 10 points.

In net for the Cougars is sophomore goalkeeper Rachel Estopare. Estopare has played and started six games for Houston this season and has compiled 19 saves. The Bend, Ore. native has a 3-1-1 record and a goals against average of 0.75.

SMU is currently led offensively by freshman Allie Thornton. Thornton has nine goals, three assists and 21 points on the year.

In net for the Mustangs is sophomore Catie Brown. Brown has started all 11 games and has saved 22 shots, allowing 12 goals and a goals against average of 1.13.

ALL-TIME SERIES…

The Owls lead the all-time series against Houston 3-0. The teams last met in the final game of the 2015 regular season as Temple pulled away with a 2-1 victory.

Against SMU, Temple is 1-4 all-time. The Owls played the Mustangs twice in 2013 and 2014 as the teams met in the conference tournament. When they squared off last season, Temple did however take the win 3-2.

UP NEXT…

After their weekend road trip, Temple will return home for three straight conference matchups. The Owls will take on the USF Bulls on Thursday October 13 for a 3:30 kickoff at the Temple Sports Complex.
