PHILADELPHIA – Temple women's soccer drops a Thursday night matchup to the Houston Cougars, 3-0. The Owls drop to 3-10, 0-3 on the year and the Cougars advance to 6-3-1, 1-2.
Houston started the match quick on the offensive end. During the 15th minute, Vanessa Almaguer went on a breakaway and then crossed the ball to Selena Peters who was able to put it away in the right corner. The Cougars would take the 1-0 lead into the half.
Less than 10 minutes into the second half, Houston added a second goal to their lead. Desiree Bowen took the crosser from Hannah Dauzat to give the Cougars a two-goal lead.
Bowen struck again for Houston during the 70th minute as she took a pass from Peters to net her second goal of the game.
In net, sophomore Jordan Nash finished the day with one save and allowed three goals. On the offensive side, sophomore Sarah McGlinn led the team with three shots and one on goal.
Head coach Seamus O'Connor saw improvements from the middle third of the field tonight and was very impressed with how his freshmen are improving.
"We played very good in the middle third, O'Connor said. "Four freshmen have made it into the starting lineup and they played well."
Temple stays on the road as they travel from Houston to Dallas to take on the SMU Mustangs. The match is set to kick off on Sunday at 2 p.m. EST and will stream for free on PonyUp TV.
