Odom and Wiczkowski Named 2017 Team Captains

PHILADELPHIA – Head coach Umme Salim-Beasley and the women's gymnastics coaching staff has announced the team captains for the 2017 season. Senior Briana Odom has been selected for the second year alongside sophomore Breahna Wiczkowski.

Odom enters her final year with the Owls after leading the team as a consistent all-around performer in 2016. The senior capped off her year with a gold-medal performance on floor at the ECAC Championships with a score of 9.825. She also wrote herself into the Owls' record books, posting an all-around score of 39.05 at the conference championships that ranks as the second-highest all-around score in program history. The two-time ECAC Gymnast of the Week also earned a spot on the 2016 Philadelphia Inquirer Women's At-Large Academic All-Area Team.

Wiczkowski returns for her second year after competing in all 13 meets as a freshman. Specializing on bars and beam, the Lititz, Pa. native posted season-highs of 9.725 on bars and 9.7 on beam, earning her first individual event title on bars at the West Chester quad meet. A social work major, Wiczkowski also earned a spot on the ECAC All-Academic Team as well as NACGCW Scholastic All-American honors.

Together, Odom and Wiczkowski will lead a team of 18 that includes six newcomers for the 2017 season set to begin on Jan. 7 at Penn State.
