Women's Basketball Continues Big 5 Play at Villanova on Saturday

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple women's basketball team continues Philadelphia Big 5 play on Saturday, heading to Villanova for a 1:00 p.m. tip at the Pavilion.
The Owls (4-3 overall) and the Wildcats (4-4 overall) are tied atop the Big 5 standings this season, with both programs winning their first two rivalry games against Saint Joseph's and La Salle.

SCOUTING TEMPLE
Temple is 4-3 on the season, most recently falling at Hampton, 71-65.Â
The Owls' offense has seen four players average in double-figures in scoring, topped by senior Feyonda Fitzgerald, who has recorded 18.7 points, 6.3 assists, and 5.0 rebounds per game. Junior Alliya Butts averages 16.0 points per game with a team-best 19 steals, while junior Donnaizha Fountain averages 11.6 points and 7.4 rebounds an outing. Junior Tanaya Atkinson contributes 15.2 points and a team-high 7.8 rebounds per game, but has been sidelined due to injury since early in the first quarter against Vermont on December 4.Â
Junior Khadijah Berger averages 5.6 points and 3.9 per game, while freshman Shantay Taylor adds 3.1 points and 3.1 rebounds per game. Seniors Ruth Sherrill (2.2 ppg, 3.5 rpg), Monasia Bolduc (2.3 ppg, 2,5 rpg), and Safiya Martin (11 total blocks) have also averaged over 10 minutes per game, as has rookie Shannen Atkinson (1.5 ppg, 3.3 rpg), who started in Temple's last game.
As a team, the Owls average 71.3 points per game, but haven't scored more than 65 points in their last three outings. Temple out-rebounds its opponents by a slim margin, and the Owls also force an average of 17.6 turnovers per game.Â

A furious fourth-quarter comeback from Temple fell just short, as the Owls dropped a 71-65 game on the road at Hampton on Wednesday night.Â
Temple rallied from a 19-point deficit to make it just a four-point game with under 30 seconds to play. Before a waning clock and an unfortunate technical foul stalled the comeback.Â
Senior Feyonda Fitzgerald scored a season-high 29 points, adding three assists and five steals. Junior Alliya Butts ended her night with 17 points, six assists, and three steals, while classmate Khadijah Berger had nine points and six rebounds. Senior Ruth Sherrill tallied season-bests with six points and 10 rebounds, while junior Donnaizha Fountain pulled down nine rebounds in the game.
SCOUTING VILLANOVA
Villanova enters the game with a 4-4 overal record, but the Wildcats have won three-straight games. Two out of three recent victories came in Big 5 play with Villanova topping La Salle (52-49) and Saint Joseph's (62-54).Â
Three players average double-digits in scoring, led by Alex Louin's 14.0 points per game. The guard also leads Villanova with 3.75 assists per game and nine total steals. Adrianna Hahn adds 12.3 points per game to Villanova's offense, while Megan Quinn averages 11.9 points and a team-best 6.3 rebounds per game. Hahn is the Wildcats' biggest threat from long-range, with 18 threes on the season, while Quinn is also a good three-point shooter, averaging 43% from beyond-the-arc.
As a team, Villanova averages 64.1 points per game, shooting 38.9% from the field and 29.2% from three. The Wildcats have been out-rebounded on the season by nearly six boards a game, but average under 10 turnovers per outing.Â

Sophomore Tanaya Atkinson pulled down 12 rebounds in the game, contributing to a 50-37 advantage for Temple on the glass.Â
