Women's Basketball Hosts Tulane in "Pink" Game on Tuesday

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple women's basketball team hosts conference-foe Tulane on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at McGonigle Hall. The game will serve as a breast cancer awareness game as part of the WBCA's "Play4Kay" initiative, benefiting the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
Coach Kay Yow, former North Carolina State University head women's basketball coach, was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987, and passed away on January 24, 2009, after facing her third bout with the disease. The Owls
• Temple is 17-9 overall, 11-4 in The American.
• The Owls are looking to rebound from a 100-97 loss in five overtimes at Memphis on Thursday.Â
• Temple led by one at halftime, but needed to rally from down three points at the end of regulation, to tie the game at 50-all. From there, five overtime sessions followed, featuring 14 lead changes and 20 ties in the extra periods alone.
• Junior Feyonda Fitzgerald led the Owls' offense with 26 points, while sophomore Alliya Butts had 19 points.Â
• Sophomores Tanaya Atkinson and Donnaizha Fountain both notched double-doubles. Atkinson had 15 points and a career-high 20 rebounds, while Fountain finished with 17 points and 11 rebounds.Â
• For the year, Butts leads the Owls with 15.8 points per game, while grabbing 72 total steals. Fitzgerald is second with 13.5 points per game, averaging a team-high 5.1 assists per game.Â
• Atkinson averages 12.3 points and 6.5 rebounds per contest, while Covile (9.3 ppg, 7.2 rpg) and Fountain (10.0 ppg, 6.7 rpg) bolster the Owls on both ends of the floor.
The Green Wave
• Tulane enters the game with a 19-8 overall record and a 10-5 mark in The American.
• Last time out, Tulane's defense led the Green Wave to a 61-42 win at home on Saturday. Kolby Morgan led the offense with 20 points, also grabbing nine boards, while Leslie Vorpahl had 10 points with four assists.
• For the year, Morgan leads the Green Wave with 17.0 points per game, racking up 58 total steals. Vorpahl is second with 11.2 points per game, averaging 5.6 assists an outing.
• Courtnie Latham (7.5 ppg) and Chinwe Duru (7.2 ppg) bolster the offense, while Tierra Jones pulls down a team-high 5.9 rebounds per game.
Temple vs. Tulane
• Temple holds a 3-1 lead in the all-time series with Tulane, including winning the earlier meeting this season.
• Last time they met, Temple used a 16-2 run late in the fourth quarter to knock off Tulane, 72-54 in New Orleans.Â
• Temple led by 13 points after the first half, and then survived an 11-0 run from Tulane between the third and fourth quarters. Temple then used that one last surge to finish off the Green Wave on their home court.
• Four Owls finished in double-figures in scoring, led by 22 from Alliya Butts. Tanaya Atkinson finished with 17 points and seven rebounds, while Feyonda Fitzgerald had 12 points and five boards.  Erica Covile notched her third double-double of the season, and 12th of her career with 10 points and 10 rebounds.Â
• Chinwe Duru led three Green Wave players in double figures, scoring 13 on the night, while Kolby Morgan and Meredith Schulte had 10 each.Â
