Women's Basketball Plays at #21/20 USF on Saturday

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple women's basketball team heads south to take on #21/20 USF on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. The Owls are looking for their second-straight win over the Bulls, and the game will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
The Owls
• Temple is 18-9 overall, 12-4 in The American.
• The Owls snapped a two-game losing streak with a 72-67 win over Tulane at home on Tuesday.
• Temple trailed by as many as 10 in the first quarter, and faced a 33-27 deficit at the half. The Owls then out-scored Tulane 45-34 in the second half to seal the victory.
• Sophomore Alliya Butts led all players with 22 points, while junior Feyonda Fitzgerald had 13 points and nine assists.Â
• Sophomore Khadijah Berger had a season-high 12 points on 4-of-8 shooting, while senior Erica Covile rounded out the double-digit scoring with 12 points. Â
• For the year, Butts leads the Owls with 16.0 points per game, while grabbing 75 total steals. Fitzgerald is second with 13.4 points per game, averaging a team-high 5.2 assists per game.Â
• Atkinson averages 12.0 points and 6.7 rebounds per contest, while Covile (9.4 ppg, 7.0 rpg) and Fountain (9.9 ppg, 6.7 rpg) bolster the Owls on both ends of the floor.
The Bulls
• #21/20 USF is 20-7 overall and 13-3 in conference play. The Bulls are a game ahead of the Owls for second play in The American.Â
• Last time out, USF reached 20 wins for the fourth-straight season 72-66 win on the road at Tulsa.Â
• USF trailed at the half, but out-scored Tulsa 22-11 in the third quarter. The Bulls then held off a late rally to seal the win.Â
• Courtney Williams led all scorers with 33 points, while Laura Ferreira had 18 points in the win. Maria Jespersen grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds.
• For the year, Williams leads USF and the conference with 22.3 points per game, while also adding 8.9 rebounds a contest.Â
• Kitija Laksa averages 13.4 points per game, and has nailed 70 threes this season. Laura Ferreira (9.8 ppg) and Alisia Jenkins (9.1 ppg, 11.9 rpg) round out the USF leaders.Â
Temple vs. USF
• USF holds a 5-1 advantage in the all-time series, but Temple grabbed the earlier meeting between the teams, a 68-66 win at the Liacouras Center on February 6.
• A put-back from senior Erica Covile with one second on the clock sealed the upset for Temple as the Owls out-scored USF 24-14 in the fourth-quarter.Â
• Covile's offensive board on the game-winner gave her a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds., her fifth of the season.
• Atkinson had a team-high 17 points, also adding six boards and three steals, while Fitzgerald finished with 13 points, five assists, and four rebounds.
• For USF, Williams finished with 22 points and 10 rebounds, while Laksa had 15 points. Jenkins chipped in 12 points and seven boards.Â
