Women's Track & Field Returns to the Ocean Breeze Complex for the Villanova Invitational

2.5.16 | Women's Track and Field

PHILADELPHIA – Returning to the Ocean Breeze Complex for the fourth time this season, Temple track and field is set to compete at the Villanova Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 6. The Owls will be competing in 11 different events throughout the day starting with the long jump, triple jump, and 60-meter hurdles at 4:30 p.m.

At last weekend's two-day Penn State National Invitational, the Owls walked away with six new personal records and some impressive finishes at the highly competitive meet. Junior Kenya Gaston placed second overall in the 500-meter race with a personal-best mark of 1:15.06. Her time also ranked ninth nationally among all 500-meter competitors.

Freshman Crystal Jones garnered two personal bests last weekend in the 60-meter hurdles and the high jump. Jones ran an 8.90 in the 60-meter hurdles to place 23rd overall and logged a 1.73 high jump to finish in a tie for seventh overall.

Classmate Sylvia Wilson continued her success in the 60-meter hurdles, running an 8.55 to qualify for the semi-finals in the event. Wilson's personal-best mark is only .02 seconds away from matching the school's record in the event.

Also making a strong impact last weekend were middle-distance runners Maya Halprin-Adams and Alexis O'Shea. The pair both logged personal-bests in the 800-meter race with O'Shea posting a 2:17.70 that ranked 21st overall and Halprin-Adams running a 2:16.84 to rank 16th in the field. Halprin-Adams shaved nearly four seconds off her previous personal record in the event.

Saturday's competition will see the 4 x 400-meter relay team for this first time since the Great Dane Classic on Jan. 16. Aliya Sharp, Bionca St. Fleur, Gaston, and Halprin-Adams will run the relay in hopes of hitting ECAC and NCAA qualifying marks.

A few more distance events will feature Owls this weekend. The mile, 800 and 3000-meter races will all feature Temple runners.
