PHILADELPHIA - Closing out the game with a 6-0 run, Temple lacrosse was able to surge ahead of visiting Wagner (0-4) for a 12-7 win on Tuesday afternoon at Geasey Field. It was the fourth win in a row for the Owls (4-1), who were led by senior Megan Pinkerton with four goals and two assists for her first career hat trick.

Wagner scored two goals to end the first half, and two more to begin the second, taking a 7-6 lead with 22:47 remaining. But from there it was all Temple, five different players scoring in a 6-0 run to finish the game well ahead of the Seahawks.

"Looking back right now I can say 'thank you' to this game, having the experience of being in a tight one," said head coach Bonnie Rosen, "and having to come from behind. To be able to dig deep and pull out the game is exactly the skill set we need psychologically and in terms of our play. We had to make some in-game adjustments today and they proved to be really effective. So looking back, this was a very tough game that hopefully prepares us down the line."

Senior Rachel Schwaab finished with four total points, scoring two goals and recording two assists, as did senior Megan Tiernan with three assists and a goal. Senior Kirstie Connor scored a pair of goals, while senior Nicole Tiernan, senior Brenda McDermott and junior Morgan Glassford all added a goal apiece.

Temple dominated the game offensively despite it being close much of the way. The Owls finished with 28 shots to Wagner's 12, and 15 draw controls to the Seahawks' six. Glassford led the Owls with seven draws for a second game in a row, while Schwaab added three.

The teams went goal-for-goal early on, and were tied at 3-3 just over 11 minutes into the game. Pinkerton then scored three straight goals over the next 16 minutes, giving the Owls a 6-3 lead with 2:21 left in the first half. It looked as though Temple would take the momentum into the break, but in the final 29 seconds the Seahawks scored twice to come within one, 6-5 at halftime.

Shea Gegan, who had scored with seven seconds left in the first half for Wagner, scored again just a minute and a half into the second period to tie the game at 6-6. Amanda Rey followed with a goal six minutes later for a 7-6 lead, but it would prove to be the Seahawks' final goal of the contest.

The Owls committed just four second-half turnovers to Wagner's 10, and Temple was a perfect 8-of-8 in clears for the contest. Nicole Tiernan led the Owls with three caused turnovers, while twin sister Megan Tiernan finished with a team-best three ground balls.

Wagner goalkeeper Katie Ferraro had a strong game with 11 saves, including eight in the second half. Temple goalkeeper Jaqi Kakalecik finished with three saves.

Next up for the Owls is a road game at UMBC, set for noon on Saturday, March 5.
