WILLIAMSBURG, VA - Temple Golf opened the spring portion of its schedule Sunday at the Kingsmill Intercollegiate.  The Owls are tied for 20th among the 24 teams after the first of three days at the par-70, 6,755-yard Kingsmill Resort, the River Course, which is the host course to the LPGA Kingsmill Open.

Senior Brandon Matthews leads the Owls and is tied for 42nd overall with a four-over 74.  Matthews is seven strokes behind the leader, Penn State's Charles Huntzinger (-3).

A trio of freshman Owls, Trey Wren, Gary McCabe and John Barone, were tied for 82nd at seven over par (77).  Freshman Sam Soeth rounded out the Temple quintet with an 84.

"We were just shaking the rust off today," said Temple coach Brian Quinn.  "We have a really young team and made a couple of mental mistakes today that we should not have made. I am looking forward to a good day tomorrow."
