Much Better Day Two for Temple Golf at Kingsmill Intercollegiate

WILLIAMSBURG, VA – What a difference a day makes! Temple Golf improved 14 strokes and six places following the second round of play at the Kingsmill Intercollegiate and now sits tied for 14th overall among the 24 competing teams. The Owls carded a 291, the fourth best total for the day, and are tied with Longwood with a two-day total of 596 at the par-70, 6,755-yard Kingsmill Resort, the River Course, which is the host course to the LPGA Kingsmill Open.
Senior Brandon Matthews, who shot a team-best two-over 72 Monday, continues to lead the Owls and is tied for 32nd overall with a six-over 146.
A trio of freshman Owls, Trey Wren, John Barone and Sam Soeth, were one shot back with cards of 73. Wren and Barone are tied for 59th overall (150), while fellow freshman Gary McCabe, who shot a 76 Monday, is tied for 82nd with a 153. Soeth is tied for 105th with a 157.
"It was another tough day to play, real windy and cold, but our four freshmen stepped up big and played very solid," said Temple coach Brian Quinn. "We look forward to getting right back out there tomorrow and playing even better."
Tennessee and Penn State are tied for first overall with a two-day total of 569. TCU (575) is third followed by Loyola-Md. (582), Drake, Dayton and Appalachian State (583), Maryland (585), Ohio and Old Dominion (589), Seton Hall (590), Radford (591), IPFW (595), Longwood and Temple (596), Maryland and Delaware (598), William & Mary (600), Towson (601), Youngstown State (603), Eastern Kentucky (608), Binghamton and St. Francis-Pa, (610), Saint Joseph's (612) and High Point (616).
Penn State's Charles Huntzinger leads the 126-player field with a nine-under 131.
The final round play is set for Tuesday.
