Golf Finishes Sixth at Furman Intercollegiate

GREENVILLE, S.C. - Senior Brandon Matthews shot a four-under 68 for the second straight day to lead Temple Golf to a sixth place finish at the Furman Intercollegiate Sunday. Matthews finished with a five-under 211 for the three-day tournament held at the 6,994 par-72 Furman University Golf Course to tied for 10th overall.
"It was nice to see Brandon back in form," said Temple Golf coach Brian Quinn on his All-American. "We are looking for some big things coming down the stretch for him and the team."
Sophomore Mark Farley, who carded a one-over 73 for his final round, tied for 19th overall with a one-under 215. Freshman Trey Wren recorded his second straight sub-par round, finishing Sunday with a one-under 71. He ended the tournament with an even-par 216 to tie for 21st. Red-shirt freshman John Barone was four-over (76) Sunday and finished in a tie for 64th (223, 7) to round out the Owls' quintet.
Georgia State won the tournament with an 841, 15 ahead of Harvard (856). USC Upstate (957) was third followed by Akron (859), Furman (860), Temple (865), Wofford (866), Frances Marion (867), Virginia Tech (868), Chattanooga (870), Dartmouth and Marshall (872), Jacksonville (873), Gardner Webb (875), South Carolina-Aiken (876), Sanford (877), Presbyterian (881), Western Carolina (885) and Mercer (889).
USC Upstate's Ryan Cornfield took home medalist honors with a 13-under 203.
The Owls next compete at the Cornell Spring South Florida Invitational next Saturday and Sunday held at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.
