Women's Basketball Set for Conference Tournament Action

UNCASVILLE, Conn. — The Temple women's basketball team is set for American Athletic Conference Tournament play. The Owls grabbed the third seed in the tournament, earning a first-round bye. The team will play the winner of #6 Tulsa and #11 Houston in the Quarterfinals on Saturday at 8:00 p.m. at the Mohegan Sun Arena.

The Owls
• Temple is 19-10 overall, 13-5 in The American, locking up the third seed. • The Owls ended the regular season with a 78-64 win over UCF at home on Monday. • Playing in her final game at McGonigle Hall, senior Erica Covile scored 11 points and pulled down seven rebounds in a six-minute span to start the third quarter. That surge ignited a 21-9 Temple run that put the game away. 
• Covile notched her 16th-career double-double, with a season-best 18 points, adding 12 re- bounds. She is now just the fourth player in program history to amass at least 1,000 points, 750 rebounds, and 150 steals in a career. • For the year, Alliya Butts leads the Owls with 15.5 points per game, while grabbing 75 total steals. Fitzgerald is second with 13.2 points per game, averaging 5.4 assists per game. 
• Atkinson averages 12.5 points and 6.7 rebounds per contest, while Covile (9.6 ppg, 7.1 rpg) and Fountain (10.3 ppg, 6.7 rpg) bolster the Owls on both ends of the floor. • The Owls average 70.4 points per game, giving up 63.7. • Temple shoots 38.9% from the field, 29.9% from three, and 70.1% from the charity stripe. 

Temple vs. Houston/Tulsa
• #6 Tulsa is 11-18 overall and compiled an 8-10 record in The American.
• #11 Houston carries a 6-23 overall mark, going 2-16 in conference play.
• The Owls are 3-0 against possible quarterfinal opponents this year (1-0 vs. Tulsa, 2-0 vs. Houston). 

Last Time They Met (Tulsa)
• Temple used an 18-2 run between the first and second quarters to open a large lead over visiting Tulsa, finishing with a 66-46 victory over the Hurricane.
• 10 different Owls found the scoring column, led by 10 points from sophomore Alliya Butts. Junior Feyonda Fitzgerald and sophomore Donnaizha Fountain each added nine points, while sophomore Tanaya Atkinson had eight points and eight rebounds.
• Te'era Williams was the only Tulsa player in double figures, netting 13 in the game. 

Last Time They Met (Houston)
• Temple led buzzer-to-buzzer, including allowing just 15 first half points as the Owls topped Houston, 78-48, at McGonigle Hall. 
Tanaya Atkinson and Donnaizha Fountain both had career games in the lopsided victory. Atkinson finished with 27 points, topping her career mark, while adding seven rebounds and three steals. Fountain bested her career highs in two categories, recording 20 points and 15 rebounds, for her second career double-double.
• Jessieka Palmer led the Houston charge with 13 points, while Serithia Hawkins (10 pts) and Mariah Mitchell (8 pts) rounded out the Cougars' scoring.
