Women's Basketball Set for American Semis vs. #20 USF

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple women's basketball team is back in action on Sunday night in the American Athletic Conference Tournament Quarterfinals. The third-seeded Owls will face second-seeded and national No. 20, USF, at 6:30 p.m. at Mohegan Sun Arena. The game will be broadcast live on ESPNU with Pam Ward (play-by-play) and Katie Smith (analyst) on the call. 

The Owls
• Temple is 20-10 overall with an RPI of 65.
• The Owls have won two in a row, including a 78-52 quarterfinal victory over Tulsa on Saturday.
• Five Temple players scored in double-figures and the Owls had a huge rebounding edge over the Hurricane, as Temple won its first ever American Tournament game.
• Against Tulsa, Tanaya Atkinson led all players with 20 points and nine rebounds, while Feyonda Fitzgerald had 14 points and seven assists. Alliya Butts (14 points), Donnaizha Fountain (11 points, 8 rebounds) and Erica Covile (10 points, 8 rebounds) rounded out the highlights.
• For the year, Butts leads the Owls with 15.5 points per game, while grabbing 76 total steals. Fitzgerald is second with 13.3 points per game, averaging a team-high 5.5 assists per game. 
• Atkinson averages 12.7 points and 6.8 rebounds per contest, while Covile (9.6 ppg, 7.1 rpg) and Fountain (10.3 ppg, 6.7 rpg) bolster the Owls on both ends of the floor.

The Bulls
• #20 USF is 22-8 overall with an RPI of 25.
• The Bulls won their quarterfinal match-up, 73-60, over #7 SMU on Saturday. 
• Against SMU, Courtney Williams broke an American Athletic Conference Tournament scoring record with 29 points, including 24 in the first half.
• For the year, Williams leads USF and the conference with 22.2 points per game, while also adding 8.7 rebounds a contest. 
• Kitija Laksa averages 13.4 points per game, and has nailed 70 threes this season, but has not played in the last three games. Laura Ferreira (10.5 ppg) and Alisia Jenkins (9.7 ppg, 11.7 rpg) round out the USF leaders.

• USF holds a 6-1 advantage in the all-time series.
• The teams split the season series, with each team winning on their home court.
• The winner of today's game will face the winner of #1 UConn and #4 Tulane.
