PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. -  Senior Brandon Matthews tied for the lead at the Cornell Spring South Invitational, but his quest for a Temple record ninth individual fell short as the Owl linkster lost to Cornell's Mike Graboyes in the third playoff hole Sunday.

Matthews, who shot an even par 72 Sunday at the 7,050-yard, par-72 Fazio Course at PGA National, finished with a four-under 140.  Freshman Gary McCabe, playing as an individual, was next for the Owls. tying for sixth overall with a one-over 145.

Freshman Trey Wren tied for 11th overall following a one-under 71 on Sunday to finish with a six-over 150.  Sophomore Mark Farley and redshirt freshman John Barone rounded out the Temple scorers with eight-over 152s.

"I am pleased with our effort as our young team continues to get better every day," said Temple head coach Brian Quinn.

Cornell won its three-team invitational with a two-day, seven-under 569.  Temple was second (594) with Dartmouth (598) four strokes back in third.
