Leyland, Franks, Papaleo Named to Women's Rowing All-Conference Team

PHILADELPHIA -- Three Temple women's rowing student-athletes earned spots on the 2016 American Athletic Conference All-Conference teams announced this weekend. The Owls' were represented by seniors Emily Leyland, Kelsey Franks, and Lily Papaleo.
Leyland was named to the All-Conference first-team, while Franks and Papaleo appeared on the second team. All three were members of the Owls' top boat, the varsity eight, that earned a bronze medal at Saturday's American Athletic Conference Championship. Leyland rowed out of the seven seat, Papaleo was the sixth seat, while Franks served as the boat's coxswain.
"Emily, Lily, and Kelsey have each contributed significantly to the performance and success of the varsity eight, and the entire team, this season," said head coach Rebecca Smith Grzybowski. "The three of them have been constants in the varsity eight this year and they have helped drive the standard of excellence to new levels. All-Conference awards are a well-deserved recognition of their contribution and leadership at the highest level."
Temple's varsity eight boat was the only American Athletic Conference boat to earn multiple Boat of the Week honors from the conference. The Owls had an outstanding spring season, including winning gold at the Kerr Cup for the first time since 1993.
