Matthews Earns First Alternate Position for U.S. Open Sectional Qualifier

HELLERTOWN, Pa. - Temple golf standout Brandon Matthews carded a five-over 76 at the U.S. Open Qualifier held at Silver Creek Country Club on Monday to tie for seventh overall at one of many local qualifiers held around the nation. The 2016 Temple graduate won a four-man playoff and earned the first alternate position for the sectional qualifying rounds.
Matthew Pulgini won the Silver Creek Qualifier with a two-over 73. James Wilson and Nick Tremps also qualified with three-over 74s as did P.J. Acierno, Michael Little and Martin Ureta with four-over 75s.
The Dupont, Pa. native, who is tied for most career individual titles (8) in Temple history, was an alternate for the 2013 U.S. Open that was held at Merion Country Club.
