6.15.16 | Women's Rowing
PHILADELPHIA --  The Temple women's rowing team was reconized with two student-athletes on the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area team, as announced on Wednesday. Recent graduates Aimee Meissner and Nicole Stark both garnered selections for their excellence combining athletics and academics.
Meissner, who earned a degree in media studies and production, was the stroke seat in Temple's varsity four during the 2015-16 season. Hailing from Phillipsburg, N.J., she earned a silver medal with her boat at the City Championships, while also earning a bronze medal at the Kerr Cup. At the American Athletic Conference Championships, Meissner led her crew to a fourth place finish, matching the boat's effort at the Murphy Cup. On campus, she was a member of Temple Update producing multimedia content on both news and sports.
Stark, a kinesiology graduate from Wexford, Pa., was a coxswain for the Owls for the 2015-16 season.  Academically she was named to Temple's Trustee Ten Team, recording one of the ten best GPA's among all Owl student-athletes. In the water, Stark coxed her boat to a silver medal at the City Championships and a bronze medal at the Kerr Cup. She also helped her crew to record fourth place finishes at both the American Athletic Conference Championships and the Murphy Cup, as the Owls finished a program-best third as a team.Â
The Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area teams are voted on by the sports information offices of the 30 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area. In order to be eligible for Academic All-Area, an athlete must be in at least her second year at the institution and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or better.
