Eight from Women's Rowing Named CRCA Scholar-Athletes
6.2.16 | Women's Rowing
PHILADELPHIA -- Eight members of the Temple women's rowing team were honored by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) with Scholar Athlete Awards. Seniors Kelsey Franks, Grace Kroner, Emilie Mehler, Aimee Meissner, and Nicole Stark all made the list for Temple, as did juniors Kaitlin Grisanti and Lea Millio, and sophomore Megan Gleason.
"We regularly talk as a team about the connection between our academic performance and our athletic performance," said head coach Rebecca Grzybowski. "It's impossible to separate the two - when one is on point, it has a positive impact on the other. I'm really proud of the entire team for their commitment to the student-athlete lifestyle and all it's responsibilities."
Kroner is a repeat selection to the CRCA Scholar-Athlete team, while the other seven Temple student-athletes are making their first appearance on the list. To be eligible for the CRCA National Scholar-Athlete honor, student-athletes were required to have a 3.5 cumulative GPA, be in their second, third or fourth year of eligibility and, rowed in her institution's NCAA or IRA eligible boat for a minimum of 75 percent of the current spring races or race in a conference regatta.
Temple rowing finished the 2015-16 season with the program's best ever finish at the American Athletic Conference Championships. The Owls placed third as a team, also winning a medal in the varsity eight race for the first time.
