Alex Cagle Receives American Athletic Conference Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence Award

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference announced the 2015-16 Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence Award winners this afternoon. Temple men's soccer player Alex Cagle received the honor as the top student-athlete amongst all American Athletic Conference soccer players.
Announced by Commissioner Mike Aresco, the Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence Awards recognize one student-athlete from each of the 24 conference-sponsored sports based on academic, athletic and community service accomplishments and credentials. To be eligible for the award, student-athletes must be at least a junior in academic standing with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00.
Cagle receives the award after an impressive season in 2015 where he finished ranking fourth in the conference with a goals against average of 1.177. To start the season, Cagle was named the American Athletic Conference Goalkeeper of the Week for three consecutive weeks as he led the Owls to their best program start since 1985.
In the classroom, Cagle is an environmental science major placed on Temple's President's Honor Roll for having a GPA of 3.5 or higher. Along with his teammates, Cagle helped the program to its third consecutive NSCAA Team Academic Award. He recently completed his summer as a research assistant with Temple's College of Public Health.
