Four Temple Programs Lead The American All-Academic Team Lists

PHILADELPHIA --Â Four Temple teams led their respective sports with the highest number of student-athletes earning 2015-2016 American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team honors. The four Owl teams to top the list were Men's Basketball (6 student-athletes), Men's Soccer (23), Men's Tennis (11), and Women's Volleyball (15).
In addition, four Temple teams also notched the second most members on the All-Academic list (Football (51), Men's Cross Country (9), Men's Golf (9) and Women's Rowing (35)).
"I am so proud of our student-athletes success in the classroom," said Director of Athletics Dr. Patrick Kraft. Â "This is a culmination of their hard work, as well as the work of our academic team at the Resnick Center led by Justin Miller and the environment instilled throughout our teams by our coaches and administration." Â Â
Overall, Temple had 217 student-athletes honored by the conference, which ranked fourth among all member institutions. However, when taking into account the sports that Temple sponsors, TU is the only American Athletic Conference institution with over 200 student-athletes on the All-Academic team, and its 112 male student-athletes honored are 45 more than the second-best school in that metric, Cincinnati.
Nominations for the All-Academic Team are submitted by each of the American Athletic Conference's member institutions. To be eligible for the honor, a nominee must have competed in an American Athletic Conference-sponsored sport, attained a minimum grade-point average of 3.00 for the preceding academic year, and completed a minimum of two consecutive semesters or three consecutive quarters of academic work, with a total of 18 semester or 27 quarter credits, not including remedial courses.
For the 2015-2016 year, the American notched a conference-record 2,361 student-athletes that achieved All-Academic honors.
