PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) has elected its first-ever Executive Board in 2016-17, and the board includes two representatives from Temple. Volleyball alum Alyssa Drachslin ('16) and junior football student-athlete Jacob Martin are two of the six selected to represent the conference.

Drachslin begins her second year as The American's SAAC national representative. She earned her degree in political science from Temple in 2015, and then earned her master's degree from the University in globalization and community development. She was the starting libero for the 24-8 volleyball team in her senior year, and ranked 28th in Division I with 5.02 digs per set, compiling over 1,500 digs in her career. Drachslin owns two of the top-five single season dig totals in Temple history, and recorded double-digit dig totals in 85 career matches, including a streak of 57 in a row.

Academically, Drachslin finished her undergraduate degree with a 3.90 grade-point average. She is a two-time Temple Trustee Award (top-10 GPA), two-time Owl Club Academic Award Winner, a President's Honor Roll member and was named to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Volleyball Team.

Martin, a journalism major, has been named the coordinator of alumni relations for the SAAC Executive Board. He is a two-year letterwinner for the football team, playing in all but one game on the defensive line rotation and on special teams as a sophomore in 2015, and has totaled 22 tackles with 1.5 sacks in his two years with the Owls.

Bailee Logsdon (Huffman, Texas), a senior on the University of Houston track and field team, will serve as the Committee's vice chair. University of Cincinnati swimmer senior Samantha Wolkoff (Cincinnati, Ohio) has been elected coordinator of student-athlete engagement; senior Jake Pierce (Hickory, North Carolina), a member of the East Carolina University swimming and diving team, will serve as coordinator of public relations; and junior Danielle Dolence (Las Vegas, Nevada), a member of the Houston soccer team, was selected as the coordinator of community engagement.

The American SAAC serves as the voice of student-athletes who represent the Conference's 12 member institutions spanning 21 sports. The mission of SAAC is to improve communication for all student-athletes at each member school as well as enhance communication between the institutions. SAAC takes an active role in understanding and providing feedback regarding NCAA and Conference legislations, and promotes student-athlete well-being, academic achievement, personal development and community service.

Beginning in 2016-17, The American's National SAAC representative and executive board members will be involved in various conference meetings throughout the year.
