Soeth Shoots Even-Par to Lead Golf after First Day at Cornell Invitational
9.17.16 | Men's Golf
ITHACA, N.Y. – Sophomore Sam Soeth had his best day as a Temple Owl to start the 2016-17 season. The Newtown Square, Pa. native carded a career-best 69 in the morning round of the Cornell Invitational and then fired a 73 in the afternoon session.
Soeth, who is even at 142, is one of just three golfers in the 81-man field to be at or below par. He is joined by day one leader Ryan Skae of Colgate (-5) and Penn's Josh Goldenberg (-1). His play helped the Cherry and White to an eighth place showing among the 14 competing teams.
Junior Mark Farley was next for the Owls as he shot a two-over 73 in the afternoon round following a tough 80 in the morning. He sits in 32nd place with an 11-over 153.
Sophomore Gary McCabe was one stroke back of Farley and tied for 33rd with a 12-over 154. He was followed by redshirt sophomore John Barone (+13/155) and redshirt freshman Erik Reisner (+16/168), who are tied for 42nd and 56th, respectively.
Sophomore Trey Wren rounded out the Owls squad with a 19-over 161 to tie for 69th.
Siena leads the field with a 591. The Saint are followed by Penn (594), Cornell (594), Yale (595), Colgate (597), Bucknell (602), Columbia (603), Temple (607), Dartmouth (609), Binghamton (610), Brown (616), St. Bonaventure (622), Canisius (628) and Cornell B (634).
