Soeth's Fourth Place Finish at Cornell Invitational Helps Temple to 8th Place

ITHACA, N.Y. – Sophomore Sam Soeth turned in his first Top 10 finish of his career, placing fourth overall at the Cornell Invitational Sunday. The Newtown Square, Pa. native carded a 73 on the final day to end the three-round, two-day event with a two-over 215.
As a team, Temple tied for eighth at the 14-team tournament held at the par-71, 6,904-yard Robert Trent Jones Golf Course.
"I am really happy for Sam as he worked hard in the off-season and it shows," said Temple coach Brian Quinn. "He really had his game working well this weekend. What a great way for him to open the season."
Redshirt sophomore John Barone also shot a 73 in his final round, moving up six spots to tie for 36th overall with a 15-over 228.
Sophomore Gary McCabe was two strokes back of Barone and tied for 40th with a 17-over 230. He was followed by redshirt freshman Erik Reisner (+20/233) and junior Mark Farley (+23/236), who tied for 54th and 62nd, respectively.
Sophomore Trey Wren rounded out the Owls squad with a 24-over 237 to tie for 64th.
Colgate's Ryan Skae shot a blistering six-under 207 to easily win the event with Cornell's Luke Graboyes (213/Even) the only other golfer to each even par among the 81 golfers.
Host Cornell won the team title with an 879 (+27). Colgate was four strokes back (883) in second place. The Red Raiders were followed by Yale (884), Siena (884), Columbia (890), Bucknell (894), Penn (900), Temple (904), Dartmouth (904), Binghamton (908), St. Bonaventure (916), Brown (918), Cornell B (938), and Canisius (943) and Cornell B.
Temple next travels to Quechee, Vt. to play in the Quechee Club Collegiate Challenge on September 24-25.
