Women’s Soccer Opens Conference Play with a Pair of Home Games

PHILADELPHIA – Temple women's soccer opens up American Athletic Conference play this week as they take on Memphis (Thursday 9/29 at 3:30 p.m.) and Tulsa (Sunday 10/2 at 12 p.m.) at the Temple Sports Complex.

Temple comes into the weekend's matches 2-7 after losing a close overtime match against regionally-ranked Lehigh. Memphis comes in at 6-2-1 off of a 5-0 victory over UT-Martin. The Golden Hurricane sit at 4-5-1 after a 2-1 loss to Ole Miss.

The Owls are led by junior Gabriella McKeown who leads the team in almost every offensive category. The North Cape May, N.J. native has three goals, two assists and eight points on the season. Redshirt-junior Kayla Cunningham leads the team in shots with 22.

In net for Temple, sophomore Jordan Nash is coming off of what head coach Seamus O'Connor called her best game of the season. Nash has saved 47 shots this season with a goals against average of 1.14 and three shutouts.

For the Tigers, Memphis is led offensively by Valerie Sanderson. Sanderson has started all nine of the team's games and has tallied up eight goals, four assists and 20 points on the season.

In goal, Maryse Bard-Martel has led the way for the Tigers. Bard-Martel has compiled 26 saves in her nine games played, while allowing eight goals for an average of 0.76.

The Golden Hurricane is led by Rachel Thun on the offensive end. Thun has scored six goals on the year, while assisting on five goals. She has a total of 17 points.

Tulsa has used two goalkeepers on the season. Rebecca Defer has played in six games with a 3-2-1 record. Defer has made 31 saves and allowed eight goals for an average of 1.39. Courtney McKeon has seen the field in five games (1-3-0) for the Golden Hurricane, saving 24 shots and allowing 10 goals against for an average or 2.22.

ALL-TIME SERIES…

The Owls and Tigers have met three times in the all-time series with a record of 1-1-1. Temple took the most recent game last season 2-1 in overtime.

Against Tulsa, the series is tied at 1-1 in the two game history. The Golden Hurricane took last year's matchup 2-1 in Oklahoma.

UP NEXT…

After this weekend's games, Temple will head on a Texas road trip as they take on conference opponents Houston and SMU. The game against Houston is a Thursday game under the lights at 7 p.m. The Owls will then head to SMU for a Sunday afternoon game with a 1 p.m. start.
