PHILADELPHIA - Temple men's and women's cross country look to reap the benefits of a home course advantage at the 2017 American Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships. The races will take place Saturday, Oct. 28 at Belmont Plateau. The men's 8K race is set for a 10 a.m. start with the women's 6K race to follow at 10:50 a.m.
Scouting Men's Cross Country
> Men's cross country will enter Saturday's race ranked No. 8 in the Mid-Atlantic Region by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The team only joined the rankings in week three and has managed to move from ninth to eighth and hold its spot. This ranking is the best ever for the Owls. Only in 2010 and 2012 did Temple men's cross country earn the No. 8 spot and the team was only previously able to maintain its position for one week.Â
> In the squad's last race at Princeton on Oct. 14, men's cross country finished fifth out of 21 teams. Graduate student Marc Steinsberger was Temple's top finisher, coming in eighth place with a career-best time of 24:17.9.
> The Owls won their first three races of 2017, the most races the team has won consecutively to open the season since 2005.Â
> In 2016, men's cross country finished fifth overall at the American Cross Country Championships. Steinsberger earned a top-10 finish, placing ninth place with a time of 24:48.4, a performance worthy of All-Conference honors.Â

> On Oct. 14 at the Princeton Invitational, women's cross country finished sixth overall out of 20 teams. Sophomore Grace Moore was the squad's top finisher. Moore placed sixth out of 179 participants with a personal best time of 21:32.9.
> The Owls have won two team titles so far this season at the Temple Invitational and the Rider Invitational on Sept. 1 and Sept. 15, respectively.
> In 2016, women's cross country finished eighth out of the 11 teams at the American Cross Country Championships. Junior Katie Leisher placed 14th with a time of 21:23.8, earning All-Conference honors. Sophomore Millie Howard rounded out the top 20, finishing the race in 21:37.3.
